In this debate, "ghosts" are conscious, non-physical souls of a person once they pass away. They can interact minimally with the physical world, producing sensory effects (e.g. chills) and moving objects but can't directly hurt living people. They can sometimes be seen. Ghosts can express emotions and communicate in limited ways with living people, and they exist because of something unfinished from the person's life. Once they resolve their unfinished business with the living world, they pass to the afterlife.
